To at least treble the number of images from our collections available online for the enjoyment, engagement and benefit of all. HAT is now the largest archive of UK advertising in the world, but limited resources mean that the current possibilities for offering access online are strictly limited.

    Situation

Our collections have been built up in many different forms over the years. They are mainly guard books, print ads, and tapes of TV commercials. With the advent of digital artwork, digital storage and use of the internet for research access most potential users are seeking access digitally. We cannot satisfy this need, nor develop our planned support for current and future educational syllabi without digitising more of our collections.

    Solution

We already have a functioning website at www.hatads.org.uk. In the last twelve months we have opened up an online digital image library within the website. At the moment we have only inputed a small representative sample from our archives within 17 nominal online collections. By developing the manpower and skills to digitise more of our collections we can dramatically increase the number and depth of our online images, thereby improving access for research and study for everybody.
