BCO reaches its landmark 20th birthday and its 21st season. Over the years we have created numerous performing opportunities for the finest young professional singers, helped launch careers, steered a brave course through the byways of rare 18thC opera and given several important UK premières.

    Situation

Larger operatic companies tend to be trapped in a limited repertory of popular operas. Smaller companies can take greater risk, and we have proved the artistic value of such a policy over many years. We also - so important - help solve the problems faced by outstanding young musicians in obtaining work - the UK is blessed with enormous talent but dwindling opportunities for performance: we provide a valuable platform and support. We hope to raise £10,000 in on-line donations towards our total.

    Solution

We provide performances at significant venues in Oxford, London, and rural venues in the south. We will be engaging a number of exceptional young musicians and also providing other means by which local people can engage with opera, often through direct involvement. To celebrate our 20th birthday we are launching a new initiative - an exciting new competition for Young Singers aged 21-30. This will be held in autumn 2013 with a final at Oxford's historic Holywell Music Room on 17 November.
