    Situation

Historically, the kindergarten sector has been woefully underfunded. In many communities there are: - no dedicated classrooms; - children being taught under trees by community teachers who have never received any formal training - no learning resources available for the children So many young Ghanaians begin primary school without a solid foundation in literacy or numeracy, which in turn leads to high failure rates, and children being held back year after year.

    Solution

In response to the urgent need for investment in the early years sector in Ghana, Sabre has worked with the Ghana Education Service at the municipal level, to develop a programme of interventions which tackles the needs of the sector in an integrated and holistic manner. Sabre’s Whole School Improvement Programme (WSIP) focuses on three core areas: Building Better Schools, Training Untrained Teachers, and Creating Learning Resources. This solution is child-centred, sustainable and scalable.
