Effective treatment and eventual prevention will rely on combining a number of complex biochemical approaches. The Cure Parkinson's Trust would like to invest in some key projects in this area, particularly focusing on developing a series of pilot studies to prove concept of treatment.

Situation
The main treatment for Parkinson's is 40 years old. People with Parkinson's end up on complex drug regimes with their quality of life impaired by side affects. We want to see new treatments available. We have identified a lack of funding at the pilot study/research stage. To get new treatments for Parkinson's there is a need to examine new targets and potential therapies.
Solution
Effective treatment and eventual prevention will rely on combining a number of complex biochemical approaches such as calcium blocking drugs, inhibition of protein build-up, anti-diabetic GLP-1 therapy, growth factor delivery and anti-toxic containment of intracellular dopamine. We would like to focus on developing a series of pilot studies to prove concept of treatment which will then enable the pharma/biotech industry to invest in the most interesting of these.
