    Situation

In Nepal, the poorest country in South East Asia, parents must pay for their child's education. Education is also still not compulsory meaning that schools in rural areas continue to be sparse or dilapidated. Children must walk 3-4 hours a day to attend school. As a result, rural enrollment, attendance and literacy rates can be as low as 9-15%. Rural communities continue to disintegrate as communities migrate to urban areas in search of an educational infrastructure and employment.

    Solution

CAIRN will construct 15 more CAIRN Schools, which will increase over 6,000 children's access to education. We will work with local communities to identify the level of educational infrastructure required (nursery, primary, secondary schools or all). The local communities will either donate the land and/or provide the labour to build the schools. We will equip the schools with learning materials & resources in order to be able to provide an education. We will provide phased teacher training.
