Situation
Southall is a community with much diversity - all of the world's major religions are represented here, as well as dozens of ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. It is fragmented by its differences and has high violence rates and deprivation indices. The area lacks community pride, safe spaces, environmental awareness and interaction and understanding between cultural and religious groups.
Solution
A Rocha Living Waterways will provide environmental education, outdoor activities, volunteer opportunities and practical projects in which people from all cultural and religious backgrounds can come together to learn and work. Working to improve the local environment will help provide a sense of belonging, a source of community pride and a neutral platform for people to interact and engage with one another.
