    Situation

Zambia is one of the African countries hardest hit by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, with over one million orphans. Not only do these children suffer from the terrible loss of their parents and family, but, in a country where almost two-thirds of the population earns less than US$1 per day many orphans can’t afford to go to school. Being out of school puts them at real risk of falling into child labour or prostitution. It also robs them of their right to an education and the chance of a better future.

    Solution

ZOA-UK’s partner project in Northern Province is KCCC (Kasama Christian Community Care). Through KCCC we will supply 78 orphans of AIDS with the requisite books, stationery and uniforms to attend school or college and older children need to pay fees and exam fees and we will cover these costs. In addition KCCC supports the orphan's guardians to run income generating businesses to provide the orphans with their daily needs so they don't have to skip school to find food.
