This campaign has now closed

During our 50th year we would like to focus on increasing our effectiveness as an organisation to ensure that we can continue to support the urgent needs of prisoners of conscience and have sufficient funds available to respond to new emergency situations which may arise.

    Situation

Repression, persecution and torture are still a sad fact of life in many countries. All over the world, brave men and women are harassed by police, detained, tortured and raped just for standing up to injustice, campaigning for democracy, practising their religion. Prisoners of conscience and their families have very few places to turn to for practical, financial help when someone is in prison or when they need to flee to a place of safety and rebuild their lives.

    Solution

We are constantly working to raise funds to distribute to prisoners of conscience and their families around the world through our network of partner organisations who refer cases to us for help. We work closely with our partners to verify the information in the applications and assess the needs of the individuals,. Once approved, grants are distributed swiftly and can be used to pay for food, clothing, medicines, emergency accommodation, travel and education.
