    Situation

The general affluence in Surrey conceals hidden deprivation and social exclusion. We believe art and creativity can promote greater well-being and social cohesion of our community. However, those most in need, including prisoners, young offenders, excluded pupils and people with mental illness have little access to art. In the wider community, there is a lack of awareness of local cultural heritage and traditional crafts. These valuable skills and knowledge are at risk of being lost.

    Solution

The Art For All Learning Programme will reach out to the community through practical art skills courses and activities tailored to suit the needs of different groups. By embracing GF Watts's ethos 'Art for All', we aim to give as many people as possible a chance to be inspired by the Watts collection, learn about historic Compton and gain a range of craft and pottery skills in the well-equipped Foyle Art for All Studio and to benefit from the well-being derived from creative activity.
