Christmas draws closer. Still, 100 million women smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa live on less than $1 a day. We aim to DOUBLE women farmers’ incomes by helping them access innovations like fertiliser & seeds. They can send children to school, buy nutritious food and get them to hospital.

    Situation

Women in many developing countries provide up to 70% of the agricultural labour. Yet they only access a fraction of the land, credit, inputs (such as irrigation equipment, improved seeds and fertilisers), agricultural training and information compared to men. This restricts their income earning ability, enhances food insecurity and the likelihood of malnutrition, and prevents them being able to afford expenses such as school fees for their children.

    Solution

Our solution is simple. We will provide poor women farmers in sub-Saharan Africa with access to irrigation technologies, seeds, fertilisers to grow more high-value cash crops. We will also link them to markets to sell their produce. This will enable them improve both their agricultural productivity and earn more income. Farmers working with iDE typically DOUBLE their incomes in one growing season.
