The current process adopted by our local partner in Tanzania in disbursing loans, collecting payments and receiving client savings is expensive, inefficient and unsafe. Cash handling leads to a higher risk of theft, violence and fraud. Loan officers spend a long time during repayment meetings counting cash and recording data, leaving little time to deliver vital business training. Lastly recounting of cash back in the head office also increases the inefficiency costs and scope for human error.

We aim to introduce microfinance services using mobile phones. Pioneered by award-winning technology company Musoni BV, this system will enable our loan officers and members to use M-Pesa (a mobile money transfer system) to carry out all loan disbursements, repayments and deposits, all through the use of a mobile phone. In phase 2 of the project loan officers will use hand-held tablets with the Musoni app to capture all client data and processes, register new members and carry out client surveys
