This project aims to ensure that children at ten rural Ugandan and Kenyan primary schools receive a quality education in a safe and secure environment that provides them with the knowledge, skills and competencies to continue to learn, grow into healthy adults and lead safe and productive lives.

Situation
Classroom facilities are poor or non-existent, with many children learning under trees or in dangerous dilapidated structures. Vital lessons are often missed as the children walk long distances for water or miss school due to water-related illnesses. When they are in class, there are few learning aids and their teachers are poorly trained, keeping exam results low. Parents do not value education and many children, especially older girls, drop out of school to support the family.
Solution
Constructing or renovating classrooms will provide a safe and secure learning environment, and providing a source of clean water at school will mean fewer children miss school. The classrooms will have learning aids, such as text books and science kits, making learning child-centred. Teachers, parents, pupils and the wider community will be trained on teaching, school management, gender awareness and general health and well-being.
