    Situation

Classroom facilities in many rural schools are completely inadequate. Some classes have to study in outdoor classrooms, under trees. Others study in classrooms made with mud walls that disintegrate during the rainy season and provide little protection from the elements. Schools lack educational materials and teachers are poorly trained keeping exam results low. Parents do not value education and many children, especially older girls, drop out of school.

    Solution

Constructing or renovating classroom blocks will provide a safe learning environment with desks for all children. Better toilet facilities and sanitary protection will encourage girls to remain in school. Children will be able to learn about life skills through sporting activities. A variety of training sessions will also be conducted for the teachers, parents, pupils and wider community covering teaching methods, school management, parental participation and gender awareness.
