This campaign has now closed

We are in the closing stages of our campaign to build a Maggie's Centre next to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. Maggie's will provide a comprehensive programme of cancer support, which complements the work of the NHS. We are seeking support towards fitting out and furnishing the Centre.

    Situation

The North East has some of the highest cancer rates seen in England, with the highest rates for both lung and bowel cancer. In the area covered by Maggie's North East, there are 5,500 people newly diagnosed every year. There is little time and space in the hospital environment to explore what a diagnosis of cancer means for patients and their families. Nor is it the ideal place to address the many and varied fears and challenges which carers and family members will face.

    Solution

Maggie’s North East will offer a place for people to turn to for help with any of the problems, large or small, associated with living with cancer. We support people at any stage of the cancer journey, with a dedicated team of professional staff on hand to help overcome fear, manage stress and anxiety, and get the most out of medical treatment. This will be delivered from an eye-catching yet homely building, designed to comfort and reassure people at a time of great vulnerability.
