The Brokerage's Outreach provision allows us to visit schools in areas of high deprivation for free, to deliver in-class careers and enterprise sessions. This is a valuable tool for schools to meet work-related learning obligations to provide independent career advice and contact with employers.

    Situation

Despite the City of London being one of the world’s biggest financial centres, it and London’s other financial districts are surrounded by areas of severe deprivation, disadvantage and income inequality. The diversity of the workforce within business and finance is not reflective of the local communities it serves, in terms of gender, ethnicity and socio-economic background.

    Solution

Despite constant revisions over many years, careers provision in schools remain inconsistent and often too narrow. Schools now face, with reduced budgets, new work related learning obligations to provide independent advice and guidance. Our Outreach project is an essential and flexible service for teachers and schools, allowing the experienced team to deliver careers and enterprise sessions for free. Each year, we engage with more than 3,000 young people through Outreach sessions in schools.
