Empower seven Awaj√∫n villages in northern Peru to save 56,000 acres of rainforest from destruction. By equipping local people with the resources they need to keep their forest and their communities intact, this project will ensure rainforest protection goes hand in hand with better lives.

Situation
Our partner villages once lived in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Now the deforestation frontier has arrived on their doorstep. Households in the project live on less than £25 a month. With their families in poverty, they have few options but to sell their trees. This money benefits only a few and the villages would lose their biggest resource – the forest. This project aims to stop deforestation from locking villages into poverty.
Solution
Cool Earth forms partnerships with indigenous villages before they are forced to sell their trees. By investing in Forest Protection, Partner Support and Income Generation we ensure our indigenous partners are best placed to defend their forest. Cool Earth develops sustainable livelihoods to outprice forest destruction and ensure rainforest is worth more kept standing than cleared.
