    Situation

Caring round-the-clock for a life-limited child is exhausting for parents and places an enormous strain on families. Complex medical needs often means safe travel and babysitting is not an option, which leads to families quickly becoming isolated and withdrawn as they are consumed by the daily routine of keeping their child safe and alive – something even more difficult in remote rural communities like Dorset and Wiltshire. Without support these families can quickly reach breaking point.

    Solution

Every family we support is unique, and so is the specialist support we provide. Families can access frequent and flexible respite care wherever and whenever they need it. Over 60% of this care happens in family homes or in the community, where our carers might take a child swimming or to the Brownies. Community respite sessions are led by children's nurses and cover all of the child's clinical, personal, and developmental needs while ensuring they are stimulated and able to have fun.
