    Situation

Persons with visual impairments are very marginalised due to their disability as their disability is very isolating. It is not uncommon for a person with a visual impairment to be "alone in a crowd". Persons with visual impairments are also often homebound as their disability seriously affects their independence and mobility. Persons with visual impairments are also more likely to be depressed and have a higher rate of self-harm than the greater community.

    Solution

The Kingston Association for the Blind plans to offer a wide range of activities, both physical and social, to enhance the life experience of persons with visual impairments. Taking part in especially physical activities brings good health outcomes and is good for the mental wellbeing of the participants as well. Social activities help with the inclusion of persons with visual impairments in the greater community as well.
