We're raising funds to support NMC's Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme as NHS cardiac rehab is often inaccessible and so many people with neuromuscular conditions miss out. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme aims to improve heart health and reduce the speed of deterioration in heart health.

Situation
People with neuromuscular conditions have very high occurrences of cardiomyopathy, as a result of the heart being a muscle which is subject to the same muscle deterioration as other parts of the body. We estimate that more than 60% of our registered patient group has cardiomyopathy, but NHS cardiac rehab is often inaccessible, meaning that people with neuromuscular conditions miss out, leading to the increased likelihood of a cardiac event and further deterioration of their heart health.
Solution
Our Therapies team take an accessible and personalised approach for each individual's own heart needs, developing a bespoke package of activities and opportunities best suited to their lifestyle and abilities, including active exercise in NMC's Neuromuscular gym, featuring 27 different pieces of accessible equipment. This means that we will be supporting good heart health within a group who historically have high mortality rates as a result of undetected or poorly managed heart failure.
